The Throne Room of God

The door stood open.

Not in a temple. Not in a palace. In heaven.

And a voice like a trumpet summoned John: “Come up here.”

In an instant, he was there, caught up in the storm and song of eternity.

Thunder shook the air, and flashes of lightning ignited the expanse.

A throne blazed at the center, pulsing with emerald light and encircled by a rainbow like a hurricane made of stained glass.

Twenty-four elders clothed in white bowed low, casting golden crowns at the feet of the One who sat upon it.

From the throne came flashes of lightning and peals of thunder. Before it burned seven torches of fire—seven spirits of God. Beneath the throne was a sea of glass.

And circling the throne, the heavenly creatures cried out:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come!” (Revelation 4:8)

And every time they did, the elders fell facedown. Every time, the crowns hit the floor. Because in this throne room, there is only One worthy.

Then John saw something else.

A scroll. Sealed with seven wax seals. Held in the right hand of the One on the throne.

Within this scroll was everything:

The destiny of creation.
The fulfillment of every prophet’s cry.
The judgment of evil and the triumph of good.
The long-awaited unveiling of God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

But no one could open it.

No one in heaven, or earth, or under the earth. Not Abraham. Not Moses. Not David. Not Gabriel. Not Michael. Not even John.

Because of this, John wept. Loudly. Bitterly. Because all of history hung in silence. The scroll remained sealed. The world, unredeemed.
Then came a voice.

“Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He can open the scroll.” (Revelation 5:5)

John turned.

But he did not see a lion roaring with thunder… He didn’t see a candescent angel with a sword of flame.

John saw a Lamb… Slain. Bloodied. But standing.

This lamb was worthy.

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God…” (Revelation 5:10)

This is the thunderclap at the heart of the gospel: victory doesn’t look like domination. It looks like sacrifice.

John heard a lion, but he saw a lamb.

The Lion conquers by becoming the Lamb. By bleeding. By dying. By rising.

This is how the kingdom of God comes: not by the sword, but by the cross. Not through domination, but through surrender. Not by wrath, but by redemption.

The Lamb takes the scroll. All of heaven erupts. The elders fall again. The creatures bow down. A new song fills the throne room:

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!” (Revelation 10:12)

And every creature on the earth, under the earth, in the sea, joins in.

This is the heart of Heaven’s story.

The crucified Christ is the glory of God.

The Lamb stands beside the throne because He shares the throne. His wounds are not a liability… They are His crown.

This lamb has the authority to guide history to its rightful end. That means your story, no matter how chaotic, is under His care. Every sealed mystery. Every “why.” Every injustice. Every unanswered prayer.

He holds it.

He opens it.

He redeems it.

So… what now? What do we do with Revelation on this side of history?

Be like the lamb.

Sacrifice.
Love your enemies.
Rule with service.

Christ’s upside-down kingdom is coming, not just in the future, but today through you.
