Lightning splinters the sky. Thunder shakes the heavens. A woman stands radiant, robed in sunlight, moon beneath her feet, stars crowning her head. Majesty wraps around her like a garment, yet agony twists her face.
She’s about to give birth, laboring to bring forth the child destined to rule the nations.
Suddenly, darkness surges, and a monstrous dragon slithers into view.
The dragon’s scales are crimson and dripping with malice. Its jaws gaping wide, ready to devour the infant the moment it arrives.
A battle older than time ignites: light versus shadow, promise versus ruin.
The woman cries out.
The dragon roars.
Heaven holds its breath…
The apostle John saw this breathtaking drama unfold in Revelation chapter 12.
Who is this radiant woman, and who is the monstrous dragon so desperate to destroy her offspring?
The symbols are clear: the sun, moon, and twelve stars echo Joseph’s dream in Genesis 37:9-11, representing Jacob (Israel), Rachel, and the twelve tribes.
Israel—God’s chosen nation—is the vessel through whom God promised the Messiah would come.
The child born from her is Christ Jesus Himself—the Savior and King, who will "rule the nations with a rod of iron" (Revelation 12:5, Psalm 2:7-9).
Born from Israel’s lineage, Jesus triumphantly ascended to heaven and now awaits the moment when He will return to reign in righteousness.
But who is the dragon? John leaves no ambiguity: "that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray" (Revelation 12:9).
Satan, consumed by jealousy and hatred, has long waged war against God’s chosen people, determined to thwart God’s redemptive plan.
John’s vision takes a chilling turn when the dragon’s fury boils over.
Midway through the Tribulation— a future period echoing past events— the Antichrist betrays Israel, desecrating the temple (Matthew 24:15).
Israel must flee into the wilderness, escaping persecution and annihilation.
This flight lasts exactly 1,260 days—three and a half years (Revelation 12:6). In this perilous wilderness, possibly hidden in a place like Petra, God Himself shelters His people from the dragon’s wrath.
Why the urgency? Why the rage? Because the enemy knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12).

The dragon tries to drown the woman with a torrent of violence, yet God intervenes. The earth itself opens to swallow the assault.
This imagery speaks directly to us today. The dragon, though defeated by the Cross, still rages in desperation. He knows his end approaches, yet he seeks to discourage, accuse, and harm God's people.
But here’s the promise: God protects those who belong to Him. The trials we face are not evidence of God’s absence, but rather proof that the enemy senses the closeness of his defeat.
Our God is faithful, sheltering His beloved even amid the fiercest storms.
The Messiah, the child from Israel, wins. Evil is crushed. God's promises stand secure.
So today, whatever battle you face, let the vision of Revelation 12 ignite your courage. The dragon may rage, but the Lamb reigns supreme.
Stand firm, dear believer. Victory belongs to the Lord.
"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…" (Revelation 12:11).
