Jezebel.
Her name drips with rebellion and ruthlessness.
Queen Jezebel was a Phoenician princess married to Israel’s King. She had an iron grip on the throne and seized control through her influence over King Ahab.
Ahab was strong in stature but weak in spirit. His vulnerability gave her the perfect stage to push her agenda, turning a kingdom away from God.
Jezebel had an army of false prophets who had sunk their teeth into Israel with idolatry.
Then came Elijah. Oh Elijah… He wasn’t a tame, old, frail prophet.
Elijah was fiery and uncompromising, driven by purpose. He didn’t work in the shadows. He walked in the light, headstrong and willing to battle.
He was the perfect enemy for Jezebel.
Elijah and Jezebel were polar opposites. Where Jezebel ruled with cunning deceit, Elijah wielded divine truth.
Their clash was political but also a cosmic showdown between godlessness and righteousness.
Elijah stood his ground against Jezebel’s prophet goons face-to-face. He challenged the Witch Queen Jezebel and the prophets of Baal to a battle of the gods.
If you even had to ask: Yawheh won.
This sent Jezebel into a frenzy, forcing Elijah on the run.
But Jezebel’s story culminates in her brutally violent death.
She is thrown from a window, which is bad enough. But then her body was consumed by a pack of dogs.
Fast-forward to today. "The Spirit of Jezebel" isn’t confined to ancient texts. It’s alive in every corner of our world, tempting us with false power, seductive lies, and self-serving ambition.
It whispers in boardrooms and social media feeds.
It tells us to sidestep accountability and dance around hard truths.
When the Jezebel spirit takes hold, it distorts our vision. It masks genuine leadership with charisma and hides manipulation behind a facade of beauty.
CONSIDER THIS:
Jezebel used manipulation, seduction, and deception to gain power. Jesus did the opposite. How have we been climbing the ladders of power in our lives? With the spirit of Jezebel or the Spirit of Christ?
The Jezebel spirit thrives on deception and manipulation, but Jesus exposes every hidden agenda with unwavering truth.
Jesus is a different type of ruler. While many politicians and charismatic leaders thrive on deception and manipulation, Jesus rules on truth.
Remember when Jesus was before Pilate in John 18? Pilate asks Jesus, “So are you a king?” Jesus’ answer is mic-drop worthy:
“You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (John 18:37)
While Jezebel's influence twisted power for personal gain, Jesus redefined authority as selfless service and sacrificial love.
With the relentless forces of truth and love, He dismantles every false idol of control.
